Guyana, Demerara-Mahaica Region, Georgetown, The Giant Water Lily or Queen Victoria's Water Lily, Victoria amazonica, is the world's largest water lily, with lily pads up to 3 meters or 9.8 feet in diameter.  The spectacular flower lasts only about 48 hours.  It blooms at night and is white when it first blooms.  The second night, it has turned purple.  After the second night, it sinks to the bottom having finished its fertilization.
